Project details

2101 Washington Street

Boston, MA

Kaplan is in the process of restoring a 44,000 SF historic building, formerly the Tropical Foods supermarket, to create 30 apartment units of affordable housing and ground floor retail space. Apartments will range from studio to three bedrooms. Extensive renovations will be required, including new framing, roof and core area for the elevator and stairwells. As a historic building, the masonry restoration must meet National Park Service standards. The building will receive new windows, new storefront, and new stucco on the exterior of the building. Kaplan will pull all new utilities into the building and install new MEP/FP systems.

The project is the second in the three-phase development of Parcel 10 and the outcome of an eight year effort by the Roxbury community and the City of Boston to bring economic diversity and private investment to Dudley Square. The project is slated to be completed by April 2018.
