Home to 27 apartments and street-level retail facilities, the 15,000 SF historic building at 35 West Newton Street in Boston underwent renovations to repair and modernize the aging structure. Working within South End Landmarks Commission and National Park Service guidelines, Kaplan Construction installed a new storefront, provided extensive interior renovations, and replaced the brownstone’s crumbling façade with a replica using precast concrete stone, fiberglass window pediments, and cornice. Kaplan exceeded requirements set by the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the client with 85% minority and 50% Boston resident participation.
