The New England Institute of Art
Brookline, MA
The New England Institute of Art hired Kaplan Construction to provide construction services to fit up a former office building into a new $4 million, 70,000 SF building for the New England Institute of Art. Working with the owner’s architects, Kaplan integrated the Art Institute’s national standards for specialized audio, video, and computer design labs within the building’s footprint. The design and construction was fast-tracked, achieving completion in only 12 weeks and enabling the facility to open in time for the beginning of the school year. Kaplan was able to reduce the project schedule by using design build MEP subcontractors, which decreased design time and sped up the permitting process. Kaplan also enlisted two supers (one per floor) to manage the construction work, ensuring quality and accuracy throughout the fast-tracked project. Since then, Kaplan has been commissioned to do multiple classroom and office renovations on campus.
This project was honored as “Best in Class Studio Design” by Mix Magazine.
