We are thrilled by this beautiful film from the Boston Preservation Alliance, celebrating the Pierce Building—an esteemed historic renovation and passion project recognized at the 2023 Preservation Achievement Awards.
An anchor of Dorchester’s Upham’s Corner, the Pierce Building was once owned by Samuel Bowen Pierce, who sold crockery and varied goods throughout New England during the 1800s. Following WWII, the building experienced decades of deferred maintenance until 2020, when the iconic building underwent a massive transformation. The work included a façade restoration, new MEPs, lighting and interior finishes, ADA upgrades, masonry repointing, envelope sealing, restoration of historic architectural elements, new windows, and new restrooms and kitchen facilities for tenants. The first floor is occupied by JP Morgan Chase’s Community Center branch, the second floor has been designated an incubator space for local entrepreneurs, and the upper floors will remain the home of Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation.
